Worn out from his first whole day of school in 3 weeks.

Does this count as the first outdoor meal of the year?

Recovery

Where did this week go??  Oh yeah!  It got sucked into the recovery time warp!
The tonsilectomy/adenoidectomy/tympanostomy "Blue Plate Special" pretty much knocked us all out this week.
Most days have been spent like this.

But yesterday we got the pain under control and he started to perk up just a little.

And then he ate!!!

And ate...

And ate! (this is bowl #2 of 'cheesy pasta')

He needs to drink more than he needs to eat but the fact that he is hungry and willing to eat means a lot.  Thank goodness for baby pain meds & pedialyte!

This is my child.

This is my child on drugs.

The surgery went well and we were home much sooner than we expected.  The doctor said he had almost 100% blockage from his adenoids meaning he could just barely breathe out of his nose.  No wonder he snores and ALWAYS breathes through his mouth.  He said that because his adenoids are so large there is a possibility that they will grow back.  (I didn't know they did that)  And if they grow back we'll have to repeat this procedure.  The tonsils were also large but they are out of there for good.  He put a new set of tubes in his ears and removed the old set that were not in the right place anymore.  There was a lot of thick fluid behind his ear drums again so he should have tons of extra smelly drainage for a few days.  But then he should actually be able to hear again!

Peyton was miserable when we got him back after surgery and continues to be  miserable this afternoon.  He was MAD about the IV they left in his arm and tried to rip it out.  I had flashbacks of him trying to rip out his chest tube as an infant (he's a lot stronger now!!).  They got us out of the hospital just as soon as they could and Peyton actually smiled just a little bit when he saw that we were leaving.  Then he went back to "sleep".  He doesnt actually sleep, just kind of passes out for about 15 minutes at a time.  But if you think he's asleep and do something to irritate him like turn on a light or change the channel on TV, he'll let you know.

So far we haven't entered the ice cream and popsicles phase but it is sure to come.  Right now he cries when we even suggest a sip of juice.  Poor kid!  I've never seen him so miserable!  ... Well he thinks he feels good enough to walk around.  I better go help.

This is what we do when mommy simply can't build another train track.

Last week we learned about bridges and how much load Thomas could pull up a bridge without falling off.  This week we are learning about tunnels.

Or more accurately, bridges are now boring; what can we use to make a tunnel?

A bridge that dumps the train into the tunnel.

And Mom, this is the tent he was talking about.  The big square tent is dying a slow, painful death.  I don't think it will make it through another set up.

Our Annual Blizzard

We officially got 12 inches but there are much deeper and much more shallow areas even in our own yard.  Luckily we didn't get ice.  The grocery store sold out of meat, beans and bananas two days before this storm hit.  I guess the looters knew what they were doing this time!  We aren't supposed to break 10 degrees for a few days.  Oh well!  We're prepared with movies, chili and firewood.

Poor Peyton wants to go play but it is just too cold.  Brandon told me to let him go & he wouldn't want to stay but it sounded like an awful lot of work to get him bundled up for just a few minutes.

3 + foot drift in our backyard

There's a step under there somewhere.  And a cat, too.  (She sank a bit)

THIS is why you have kids!!
Peyton thought it was great fun to wipe up the snow that came inside the door.  I'm so glad!!
